Classroom teaching itself is a humongous challenge, no matter what the course is. Nowadays, online courses are very much in vogue but classroom teaching cannot be replaced because of its effectiveness. Management courses are better off inside classroom; hence, at SDL, we have been providing numerous teaching facilities for an array of courses. ITIL Training or Certification from us has a huge impetus for the tag and effectiveness it carries. ITIL and Risk Management Prep courses are held online but rest of the courses that include Lean Six Sigma certification course, Scrum Training or Scrum Master Certification, CBAP or CCBA or ECBA Prep courses are all held in classroom.  However, there are innumerable challenges that are faced in classroom teaching –

  • Though many have suggested that preparatory courses should all be classroom based, yet there are many who cannot attend classes on a regular basis.
  • There can be interruptions coming in between in the form of argument but that has to be handled very tactfully. The process might involve preventing the debate from turning into a prolonged verbal duel for either individual students or groups with whom students may identify. For instance, in CBAP Prep Course, at SDL, we always encourage group interaction. That should be followed effectively.

  • Over talkative or troublesome students can derail a class. That has to be managed in the most constructive way because it cannot be allowed to linger much, so that other students get affected badly by this. One can ask other students to comment on the dominant student’s ideas and to propose alternative perspectives.
  • Grades can vary from one student to another that mainly depends on the level of performance. This is indeed a huge challenge for the teacher. Hence, encouraging students to prepare well will be the best way to handle such situations.

Sometimes, particular students may cause you problems in class, without warranting major negotiation or intervention. The discussed points are some of the common situations faced in classroom teaching, and ways to work them out. There is a built-in way to handle this challenge that all teachers use. It’s called differentiation or implementing various ways of learning into a curriculum. Hence, the task always remains challenging.
